The picture gives the illusion of glass butterflies with gold paint, but they are clear plastic with gold-ish paint. You can easily tell they are plastic since the plastic is just very slightly milky looking. But I like them. I won't be using these this year (2008), but will next year. I like the idea of them being clipped onto the tree limbs giving them the appearance of butterflies resting on the branches of the Christmas tree. If they turn out to be cr*p, I'll certainly update this review, but I think they will work just fine. UPDATE: 12/18/09 We decorated the Christmas tree last night and these ornaments are lovely! They clip very nicely to the branch and are lightweight and don't weigh the branches down. They sparkle and look elegant and there shatterproof bodies are amazingly strong. The problem seems to be that the gluing process holding the clip to the body is faulty.
